College Fair Draws Universities Nationwide

More than 50 colleges and universities were represented at the college fair, which is presented each year by our Counseling Office to catalyze students’ search for the college that they will attend. Jackson Academy Upper School students in grades ten through eleven attended the fair to gather information about schools that they are interested in, and learn more about colleges that they may not have previously considered.

Middle School Student Council Elected

Congratulations to the 2019-2020 Middle School Student Council officers, who were elected after two and a half days of campaigning throughout the division. This year each grade will be led by five elected officers and by volunteer representatives. To be recognized as a representative, a student will attend a minimum of 5 meetings and work on two projects each semester. Participating students gain invaluable experience in leading and organizing meetings and projects, while enriching the Middle School community through their service.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, and JA is thrilled to partner with the Campbell Bulldog Fund and the Sherard Shaw Foundation to raise funds for pediatric cancer research for the fourth year in a row.

Chapel Services Give Students Space for Spiritual Growth

Chapels have been considered places of sanctuary for millions of people since the Christian faith inspired their construction. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the school year, our Performing Arts Center and occasionally our gymnasiums become places of sanctuary from the rush of the school year as students gather to learn more about God. Last week, the Upper, Middle, and Lower Schools all held their first chapel meetings of the year.

Ninth Grade Spends a Day at Choctaw Trails

Ninth grade students spent the first full day of school competing in the August heat by taking on a series of challenges set up at Choctaw Trails in Clinton. The outing is new this year and is Jackson Academy’s most recent addition to the Soar program, which offers experiential learning opportunities.

Words of Wisdom to Kick off the Year

Before students arrive each fall, teachers and staff busily prepare the classrooms and the campus. During Teacher Work Week, a pause to this pace occurs for a gathering of all faculty and staff. This year, the group heard inspiring messages from the Executive Director of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Dr. Jim Futral, JA Board of Trustees Chair Scott Pedigo, and JA Head of School Jack Milne.
