Arts & Music

Art and music can have a profound impact on our emotions and the way we develop and learn. When JA students create a piece of art or perform a piece of music, they create something unique, a moment in time that belongs to them.

We include both traditional and modern art forms, allowing students to explore classes, after-school programs, and projects that develop their skills and confidence.

Programs are led by professional working artists who excel as both teachers and practitioners.

“There are so many ways to get involved at JA, and by the time you are a senior, there will be so many activities you want to be a part of. Find something that you love, and be the best you can be with it.”

Art & Music Experiences

JA seeks to provide a creative, challenging, and nurturing environment that offers the highest quality of instruction to every student. Courses and extracurricular opportunities in the arts and music let your child shine at JA, both individually and as part of an ensemble.

Through art and music opportunities at JA, your child may have the opportunity to:

Obtain individualized training in dance, piano, voice, and acting through both faculty and area artists who teach conservatory classes at JA.

Participate in theatre productions — including the fall musical, the competition one-act play, and/or the spring full-length straight (nonmusical) play.

Sing with a competitive show choir.

Display visual artwork on campus and in national competitions.

Contribute to Images, the award-winning literary magazine produced by students in the Upper School.

Experiment and gain broadcast journalism experience in front of and behind the camera through Raider Network.

Performing Arts Center

Constructed in 2010, the Performing Arts Center is a campus jewel that features:

  • An 800-seat performance hall with the technical specifications needed to mount a full-scale professional production.
  • An orchestra pit, full fly loft for backdrops and lighting, and a sprung dance floor.
  • A flexible use “black box” theater, classrooms, green room, costume storage facilities, dressing rooms, scene shop, and additional support spaces needed for large scale productions

When not in use by the Jackson Academy community, the facility is available for local performing groups as well as national and regional touring productions.

The Performing Arts Center hosts student assemblies for all school divisions, honor inductions, chapel programs, plays, musical performances, and community presentations. The center also attracts top ballet companies and many other area Jackson-area arts groups.
