Jackson Academy is pleased to announce the second quarter Honor Roll and Academy Honor Roll for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Jackson Academy not only fosters mentoring and learning across grades, but takes steps to help students maintain those mentoring relationships after graduation. This month, first graders wrote Christmas letters to someone special in their lives – the Alpha and Omega buddies they were paired with during their kindergarten year.
Students and faculty traveled to Mississippi State this past weekend to compete in the Mississippi Theatre Association’s DramaFest. The group returned with a number of awards for “no fury,” an original play written by JA’s Director of Performing Arts Kerri Sanders. Their performance of “no fury” earned the opportunity to advance to the MTA Statewide Festival.
Jackson Academy students experienced a refreshing treat in the JA Amphitheatre last week. The Student Government Association sponsored an outdoor Soda Shop with proceeds going to support Clean Up Jackson, a local organization committed to keeping the city of Jackson clean.
On Veterans Day, the entire Jackson Academy community, including students, faculty, and parents, found many ways to show appreciation for those who have served our country and are currently serving. Activities included performances, parades, and classroom activities, demonstrating JA’s collective respect for our veterans.
Over the next few weeks, JA’s talented theatre students will partner with enthusiastic second and third graders to create something magical for the upcoming “Christmas With the Arts” event on December 9.
Dr. Clark Gamblin ’87 believes the body will do what the mind says. The Professor of Surgery and the Vice-Chair for Clinical Operations at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has tested this belief. He will test it again from January 31 to February 6, running seven marathons on seven continents in seven days.
Jackson Academy has long believed that the Alpha & Omega pairings of seniors and kindergartners provide lasting benefits. Sometimes, buddies keep in touch throughout adulthood. Recently, two buddies—Robert Crisler ’16 and current student Caden Callison—reconnected through ninth-grade football.
The JA Band had a little fun Thursday morning by having senior parents shadow their band members during a rehearsal. Parents were asked to participate in the band’s usual performance without prior practice, leading to hilarious mistakes and improvisations.
