The Class of 2026 marked Senior Awards Day last Tuesday with two celebrations: an awards presentation in the Performing Arts Center and a dinner at the Old Capitol Inn featuring an address by the Rev. Wes Ingram ’94 of Oxford, this year’s Distinguished Alumni of the Year. The day’s honors included the induction of students into the Hall of Fame.
Former U.S. Representative Gregg Harper brought both wisdom and candor to Jackson Academy’s Academic Signing Day, offering seniors a send-off filled with life lessons to begin their next chapter. Each spring, Upper School AP Art students display selected pieces from their portfolios in the Performing Arts Center Gallery, offering the JA community a window into a year’s worth of creative work, growth, and artistic discipline. On display this year are selected pieces created by Crystal Gao, Ellie Morgan, Preston Perkins, and Justina Visgarra.
The Honor Council, made up of students who apply for the privilege of serving in the role, works alongside Faculty Advisor Sandra McKay to administer JA’s Honor Code, the student-led backbone of a system designed to uphold the school’s values both inside and outside the classroom.
Families gathered at Jackson Academy twice last week to celebrate milestone moments for the Class of 2026 as the school hosted Ole Miss and MSU Scholarship Days. The events honored Jackson Academy seniors earning academic scholarships to the University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University.
JA juniors and seniors took prom downtown in 2026, celebrating at the Railroad District with a Mardi Gras-themed night of music, dancing, and great food. Earlier in the evening, the Railroad District welcomed a younger crowd for Prom Jr., where girls in kindergarten through third grade got their own taste of the magic, dressed up and escorted by their dads and father figures for a special date night of their own.
Led by dental students, JA Upper School students toured the Human Gross Anatomy lab at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and observed dissections, giving students their first exposure to human dissection in the health professional schools.
Two families, along with representatives of the University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University, and Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office were at Jackson Academy last week for presentations about misuse of controlled substances, such as Fentanyl, recognized in recent years as the leading cause of death for ages 18-45.
Thirteen Jackson Academy students crossed the Performing Arts Center stage Wednesday to receive the Cum Laude Society pin, recognizing their superior academic achievement. They joined previous student and faculty inductees of JA’s chapter, one of only four Cum Laude charters granted in Mississippi.
