Alpha and Omega Buddy Reading

Alpha and Omega Buddies read “Pete the Cat” together in the PAC Lobby this morning. The seniors each wrote a sweet note inside the cover of the book for their buddies. After reading together, kindergartners took their books home as a keepsake.

Mark Hinkle Photography Workshop

In January and February, professional sports photographer and former JA parent Mark Hinkle conducted a photography workshop at JA. Hinkle led four sessions that covered everything from the technical aspects of camera operation to the creative approaches that help photos tell a story.

JA Theatre Takes MTA Stage

JA Theatre students traveled to Gulfport January 11-14 for the annually held Mississippi Theatre Association Festival, where schools from across the state converged for competition. The directors and students have been working incredibly hard this year in preparation for this one-of-a-kind theatre event.

Looking Forward With Chemistry

Belhaven University’s Chemistry Department Chair, Dr. Brandon Magers, and his student, Kerany Un, visited Upper School chemistry classes to discuss mathematical calculations used in chemistry and how they apply to other science areas.

Art Students View Original Works of Picasso

JA art students studied the work of Pablo Picasso and Romare Bearden at the Mississippi Museum of Art on November 16. Art teacher Susan Ingram gave each student an assortment of images to locate and identify by recording the title and artist. Students emailed four images to Ingram: three selfies with a great work of art and one selfie with a work of art that did not appeal to them.

Collaboration Offers Professional Voice Experience

A faculty member and two seniors recently participated in a professional vocal project that used skills taught at JA. Director of Performing Arts Kerri Sanders and students Boston Hollingsworth and Sydney Thaxton served as voice talent for an audiobook project released on Audible in November.
