Students Reenact the Accomplishments of Others on Famous Americans Day

Students engage in a lot of hands-on learning during Famous Americans Day. They prepare costumes, participate in a parade, and ultimately showcase their famous characters in a wax museum-style activity. This special day at Jackson Academy brings the lives of well-known Americans to the forefront of students’ imaginations. Through this experience, students learn about the contributions of these figures to the country. Stories of brilliance, courage, honor, work ethic, athletic and artistic abilities, and other admirable traits inspire students to reach for the stars.

Theatre Students Perform ‘No Fury’ for Upper School

JA’s theatre department wowed the Upper School with their performance of “No Fury,” an original play by Director of Performing Arts Kerri Sanders. After earning a standing ovation from their peers, the cast now sets their sights on THESCON, where they will compete at the MSU Riley Center in Meridian this Friday.

Thinkfast…and Think Responsibly

Leaders of the Nissan North America and Thinkfast Interactive Awareness Teen Driver Initiative told the Upper School student body a few things students already knew about driving and many things they did not. It all happened during a Friday fast-paced, interactive game-show-style event in the PAC auditorium.

Season Opener Baseball Camp Hits a Home Run!

More than 100 campers came together at Raider Park for Jackson Academy’s Season Opener Baseball Camp. Head Coach Corey Dickerson, his elite coaching staff, and the varsity baseball team spent the morning helping young athletes in the Jackson area sharpen their skills in preparation for the upcoming season.

Governor Proclaims January 28 Jan Sojourner Day

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves, in an official proclamation, declared January 28, 2025, to be known as Coach Jan Sojourner Day. The crowd inside the Jackson Academy Raider Dome responded with a lengthy standing ovation as the announcement was read. This recognition of JA’s Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach, retiring at the end of this school year after 40 years at the school, was the culmination of an incredible day on the campus of Jackson Academy.

JA Celebrates 40 Years with Coach Sojourner

Students, faculty, and staff wore JA jerseys today and participated in a pep rally as Jackson Academy recognized Jan Sojourner during her final season. Coach Sojourner will complete a stellar career, culminating in 40 years at JA and 45 years of coaching. She will finish her career as the girls basketball coach with the third-highest number of wins in Mississippi history.

Theatre Students Rewarded for Competitive Performances

Jackson Academy students and faculty competed in the Mississippi Theatre Association State Festival January 16-19 in Meridian. They returned with numerous individual and group awards in multiple categories for both student and adult participants, including a perfect score in Musical Duet. The group’s earlier performance at the December Mississippi Theatre Association’s DramaFest earned the opportunity to advance to this statewide festival.
