Each weekend throughout the year in K4 and kindergarten, the most well-behaved student of the week in the class gets to take the class mascot home. Last week in Courtney Denton’s Birds class, these students had the opportunity to bring “Birdie” home for the weekend to tag along on all of their adventures.

JA’s SOAR Director Named

Associate Head of School for Student Life Jimmy Messer has announced the hiring of Jackson Academy’s director of the SOAR Outdoor Program. This initiative offers experiential out-of-classroom learning opportunities. Dean Arnold will begin his role leading JA’s signature program on September 7.

Seizing an Opportunity to Help

Jackson Academy students joined with others across the Metro area to help with flood relief efforts. Sunday, a group of students accompanied by Associate Head of Student Life Jimmy Messer, his wife April, and other parents, prepared sandbags at Christ United Methodist Church.

Students Focus on Faith and How to Be Hands of God

As the school year opened, each student had a morning time to pause to worship and spend time diving into the word of God. Last week, Upper School and Middle School students joined in the Performing Arts Center for their first chapel of the year to hear from Assistant Baseball and Softball Coach JG Miley.

JA Launches Brand Refresh: Bright Minds, Good Hearts

How Jackson Academy faculty, families, students, and alumni express their experiences with JA helps others know and understand the school, its purpose, and its personality. When faculty and staff gathered for Teacher Work Week in August, before students arrived on campus, they participated in sessions about refreshing JA’s brand platform.

Test Prep Emphasis Led by ACT Certified Educator

Jackson Academy’s own Ann Boswell Carlson is to lead test prep for tenth to twelfth grade students. Carlson’s journey at JA started as a student in K4 and continued through graduation. While finishing her education at Belhaven University, she returned to JA, working with her mom, George Johnson, the Preschool librarian.

JA Welcomes New Faculty and Staff

Join us in welcoming more than 30 new employees to Jackson Academy this year. These faculty and staff members took part in a new employee orientation before school began, and they are actively teaching, coaching, and providing support to the school in their respective roles.

JAA Sponsors Opening School Event

The Jackson Academy Association opened the new school year with a festive event for parents and friends that harkened back to the Roaring Twenties. As guests entered the Country Club of Jackson for A Blue & White Night, they received pearl-colored flapper necklaces and tickets for table games.

Choral Music and Showchoir Leaders Introduced

Jackson Academy’s new Director of Choral Music, Garrett Lindsey, began preparations this summer for the show choir and choral music seasons and the academic instruction accompanying them. In his role, he oversees Upper School choral music programs and the Upper School showchoir, Encore.
