Members of the Black History Month committee planned a program that included prayer, inspiring readings, music, and a presentation by Judge Crystal Wise Martin, a JA parent. The chapel service dedicated to Black History Month fell on Valentine’s Day, and Judge Martin incorporated God’s commandments to love into her presentation.
The Jackson Academy Accelerated Reader Program consists of second to fourth-grade students. This program encourages a love of reading in students in order to help them become life-long readers. This program provides a guide for selecting literature that students will read to get a variety of materials.
Reggie D. Ford attended an independent high school similar to Jackson Academy in Nashville, graduating in 2009. Now a motivational speaker, bestselling author, and wealth management advisor, the 31-year-old Vanderbilt graduate is recognized among young innovators on the rise.
Lower School Chapel continued their Hands of God series, learning to be Hands of Compassion last week. So far, the Lower School has focused on being the hands of prayer, work, gratitude, healing, welcome, and now compassion.
Our K3 classes had their annual morning parade through the Lower School and Preschool building last Thursday, February 2. Young Raiders dressed as characters from their favorite nursery rhymes that they have been learning all year. There were appearances from Jack and Jill, the Cow Jumps Over the Moon, Humpty Dumpty, the Itsy Bitsy Spider, and more!
Last week, Cliff Powers’ STEM class worked in small groups to solve challenges in a Harry Potter-themed escape room. Powers created a whole experience throughout the classroom with different stations. Each station would provide a clue to the students to help them gather information to solve each challenge.
Worldwide Program Manager of Apple Distinguished Schools Dr. Bill Ziegler, and other Apple Inc. representatives, met Jackson Academy students, faculty and staff on Wednesday when they visited to observe how the school has successfully incorporated Apple technology into teaching and learning. JA’s Tech Team coordinated the visit after learning about Apple’s interest in seeing JA’s approach more in-depth.
The Class of 2023 watched senior Emily Buchanan sign to continue her academic and athletic career next year at Dallas Baptist University. This marks the fifth JA athlete to sign this year. Emily has been on the JA varsity tennis team since the sixth grade and has been a starter since the seventh grade.
Last Tuesday, SOAR Director Dean Arnold spoke to the Upper School finance class about buying a home. The finance class is taught by Upper School Librarian Bronwyn Burford. Burford’s finance class studies the housing market, debt-income ratios, insurance, and taxes.
