The Heisman Trophy Trust announced the 2022 School Winners for the Heisman High School Scholarship, and seniors Mary Peyton Barnette and Adams Kennedy were selected to be JA’s representatives for this honor.

Senior football player Adams Kennedy says he is honored to have received this award. “I have been blessed with many wonderful teachers and coaches who have pushed me to be my best,” says Kennedy. “I am grateful to JA and everyone who has helped me in so many ways.”

Senior basketball player Mary Peyton Barnette says she will always value the lessons taught by her JA coaches and teachers. “Being at JA since K3 and involved in the basketball program since 5th grade, it is a special honor to win this award,” says Barnette. “The teachers and coaches have instilled in me the importance of hard work and perseverance that will go on with me throughout life.”

The Heisman High School Scholarship extends the Heisman prestige to the nation’s most esteemed high school seniors by recognizing and rewarding outstanding student-athletes who understand that the most important victories not only happen on the field, but in their schools and communities. These remarkable young leaders make a game-changing difference every day. They set the example for younger student-athletes, paving the way to greatness for those throughout their school and community.

Each student’s GPA, athletic involvement, and leadership are taken into consideration during the selection process of this scholarship. Over the past 28 years, the program has honored more than 600,000 of the nation’s most esteemed high school seniors and provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in college scholarships to students and more than a million dollars to high school academic and athletic programs across the country.

The senior student-athletes will continue on for the chance to become State Winners, National Finalists, or National Winners, receiving up $1,000-10,000 in college scholarships.
