Jackson Academy is in the pilot season of a new intramural athletic program. The program started with soccer this semester. Other sports will follow.
It’s a great time to be a Raider! Over the past few weeks, JA hosted our largest-ever JASI Show Choir Invitational, the Quiz Bowl team won the Mississippi Academic Competition and advances to the National Competition in May and June, both boys and girls Junior Varsity basketball teams won the MAIS 6A state championship, and SOAR students went rock climbing on a trip to Oxford.
The JV Lady Raiders and Raiders secured MAIS 6A Junior High State Championships this weekend.
The Class of 2023 watched senior Emily Buchanan sign to continue her academic and athletic career next year at Dallas Baptist University. This marks the fifth JA athlete to sign this year. Emily has been on the JA varsity tennis team since the sixth grade and has been a starter since the seventh grade.
For the fourth year in a row, the Jackson Academy Lady Raider volleyball program boasts the top player in the state. Senior Lakin Laurendine was named the 2022-23 Gatorade Mississippi Volleyball Player of the Year this past week.
Jackson Academy’s volleyball team and fans enjoyed a spectacular season, culminating in the MAIS Overall Volleyball Championship last semester, which marked the eighth state title since volleyball began at JA in the 2011-12 school year. Addi Roberts signed to continue her soccer journey at Holmes Community College. Addi is the daughter of Stacy and James Roberts. She has been a member of the Jackson Academy soccer team for six years and a varsity starter for the last four years. Addi is also involved in the track and field team, throwing shot put and discus. This year Addi won a state championship in shot put.
Audiences surrounding west of Central Park streets to all of the viewers tuned in to NBC Thursday morning, were able to see several JA Accents and varsity cheerleaders perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
Jackson Academy held a college signing event for three Lady Raiders who intend to continue their athletic careers in soccer and volleyball. Addison Comer, Mary Grace Foster, and Lakin Laurendine, surrounded by teammates, coaches, family members, faculty, fellow students, and media members, signed for college scholarships on November 9 in the Learning Commons.
