EduADAwards recognized Jackson Academy in its 39th Annual Educational Advertising Awards completed at the end of March 2024. JA received awards in six categories from entries created and submitted by the Office of Marketing & Communication.
Jackson Academy is pleased to announce that Mallory Brooks of Jackson, daughter of Marie and Josh Brooks, and Gautam Ray of Brandon, son of Anandhi and Paresh Ray, are the Class of 2024 co-valedictorians. With impressive, identical scores from their body of work throughout their high school careers, Mallory and Gautam each received the honor of addressing the senior class at graduation. These students have excelled academically throughout the four years of Upper School and have outstanding community service and campus involvement resumes.
The Raider Network, JA’s broadcast team, clinched the Best Live Event category at the Southeast Regional Student Production Awards on March 23 for outstanding coverage of the Jackson Academy vs. Jackson Prep junior high football game. During junior high contests, JA students orchestrate the entire broadcast under the direction of faculty and staff.
Members of Mu Alpha Theta attended the annual state convention and math competition Sunday and Monday, April 7-8. They competed in individual and team events, as well as the categories table talk, scrapbook, banner, video, and logo. Congratulations to Mu Alpha Theta!
Jackson Academy announced that Coach David Duggan has returned to Jackson Academy to serve as the school’s head football coach. A dedicated and veteran leader on and off the field, Coach Duggan first came to JA in the fall of 2022, armed with a wealth of knowledge, experience, and an impressive college and professional football record.
Andrew Ritter’s story is one of those that sticks with you. In 2009, he graduated from Jackson Academy, where he was already making waves on the football field. His skills as a kicker landed him a spot at Ole Miss, where he played for four years, including a redshirt year. The highlight? Kicking the game-winning field goal against LSU, a moment Ole Miss fans won’t forget anytime soon.
Twenty-five JA students, alums, and parents embarked on a tour of Italy during Spring Break. At Venice, the group quickly became acquainted with the Travel for Teens guides Leo and Max, who led the group on a 10-day exploration of Italy’s landscape, sites, people, and culture. A water taxi from the airport allowed for a quick introduction to the “city of canals.”
Congratulations to the following Upper School art students for their winning artworks at the 2024 Scholastic Art Competition. This is a statewide competition with over 1,330 submissions from over 500 students.
In March, the country celebrates women’s achievements and the importance of math and science education, including Women’s History Month, Pi Day, and Celebrate Scientists Day observances. Coming in April, JA’s theatre department will shine a spotlight on the life of Jerrie Cobb, a pilot and aviator influential in the space program.
