Jackson Academy has a tradition of students participating in the Jackson Symphony League’s Sub Deb Program. Through Sub Debs, students gain experience as volunteers who assist with symphony concerts, support fundraising efforts, and receive professional development training.
JA students participate in Sub Debs beginning in their sophomore year, earning the title of Ambassador their second year and Principal their third year. In recent years, the JA Performing Arts Center has hosted Mississippi Symphony Orchestra programs, so some Sub Deb volunteer work has taken place in connection with the girls’ own campus. In fact, JA helped the symphony stream an orchestra performance to St. Catherine’s Village, and Sub Debs helped residents of the facility log on to enjoy the programming.
This December, Sub Debs attended the annual Jackson Symphony League Christmas mother-daughter tea at the Governor’s Mansion, where their volunteer hours and fundraising efforts for the year were honored. JA Sub Debs joined other Sub Debs in helping raise $125,000 for the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra this year.
JA has one of the largest Sub Deb groups in the Metro area. Members are Sara Brown, Carli Grace Criddle, Ardynn Howell, Vivi Gross, Ella Grace King, Chesley Quinn, Madelyn Rodrigue, Allie Shay, Ella Abide, Berkleigh Akins, Riena Alford, Sue Berman, Mary Laurel Boykin, Claudette Bronzi, Hays Carson, Claire Champagne, Lana Clanton, Lauren Clanton, Mary Ellen Curley, Parkes Denton, Lila Easley, Lillie Henson, Hallie Hillman, Hart Hines, Carson Hosemann, Carol Ann Hudson, Mary Fowler Hudson, Ann Thomas Jacobs, Anna Caroline Long, Kinlee Lutken, Avery Mae Malouf, Stella Cate McLemore, Anna Mitchell Peters, Emma Pollack, Lila Pressler, Molly Schade, Gloria Scott, Stella Blair Sims, Josie Sosa, and Ann Frances Tatum.
