Both Jackson Academy varsity basketball teams finished their pre-conference schedules with 12-3 records and are looking forward to tonight as conference play begins at The Raider Dome. This is also a reminder that there are only 10 games left in the regular season to honor Head Coach Jan Sojourner with your attendance. Five home games and five away are all that remain in the stellar 45-year career of the third winningest girls basketball coach in Mississippi history. Come out and support Coach Sojourner, the Lady Raiders, and the Raiders tonight. Varsity games begin at 6:30 p.m. and JV games get started at 4 p.m.
The spring semester at JA offers a number of opportunities to enjoy the arts. Band, theatre, and show choir students will participate in competitions, clinics, and public performances.
The newest issue of “True Blue,” Jackson Academy’s award-winning magazine, is available online and in print. Published by the Marketing and Communication and Advancement departments, “True Blue” highlights stories of students, faculty, campus happenings, alumni, and donor news.
Jackson Academy not only fosters mentoring and learning across grades, but takes steps to help students maintain those mentoring relationships after graduation. This month, first graders wrote Christmas letters to someone special in their lives – the Alpha and Omega buddies they were paired with during their kindergarten year.
Jackson Academy’s Raider Network showcased its broadcasting prowess yet again on Saturday, December 14, at 3 p.m., when it produced the Ole Miss vs. Southern Miss men’s basketball game on SEC Network Plus. The production team included 18 crew members, featuring current students, eight grader, Knox Seward, and senior, Alexander Barrera, alumni Walker Lake ’23, Samuel Long ’23, and Matt Hinkle ’03, as well as staff members Josh Hinkle ’15, Eddie Wettach ’03, and Bryan Eubank. This marks the Raider Network’s fifth broadcast for an ESPN platform, further cementing its reputation as one of the premier high school broadcast programs in the nation.
Students and faculty traveled to Mississippi State this past weekend to compete in the Mississippi Theatre Association’s DramaFest. The group returned with a number of awards for “no fury,” an original play written by JA’s Director of Performing Arts Kerri Sanders. Their performance of “no fury” earned the opportunity to advance to the MTA Statewide Festival.
Jackson Academy students who placed first in the JA Spelling Bee advanced to the MAIS District Bee held last Wednesday at Jackson Prep.
On a chilly Thursday evening, Jackson Academy transformed its halls into a magical wonderland for its Polar Express Preschool Christmas Open House. The air was filled with laughter and excitement as hundreds of children, from toddlers to four-year-olds, eagerly explored the festive scene inspired by one of their favorite holiday movies. Nearly 600 people took a ride on the Polar Express.
Each year on Giving Tuesday, Jackson Academy alumni, families, and friends join millions of people worldwide in expressing their generosity. Supporting JA’s mission with a gift is one significant way to benefit students as they grow to become people of purpose and significance.
