November 15, 2021 / Athletics/All News

For the second week in a row, Jackson Academy’s Class of 2022 had a banner day as three more seniors signed papers committing them to continue their academic and athletic careers at Austin Peay State University and Mississippi College next year. These are the fifth, sixth, and seventh athletic signings for this school year. In the fall of 2021, these three student athletes helped lead JA varsity volleyball to its third consecutive State Championship by not dropping a single set in MAIS play. These ladies were also recently selected to the All-MAIS Volleyball Division 1 and AVCA All-Region High School teams.

Sarah Carnathan is the daughter of Don and Pam Carnathan. Sarah was a member this year of the varsity team and has played volleyball for seven years. She led the team in blocks with 82 total. She is also the current MAIS State High Jump Champion, and she finished third in the long jump last year. She set a new JA high jump record in her first year as a Raider. Sarah committed to play volleyball at Austin Peay State University, where she plans to major in kinesiology. She will also play beach volleyball and compete in the high jump for the Governors.

Remy Jones is the daughter of Amber and Karl Jones. She has been on the varsity team for four years, played volleyball for seven years, and received the Raider Award this year. Remy recently became the second Lady Raider to achieve 1,000 digs in her career, and she is second all-time in school history with 1,162 digs. Last year she received the Julie Dyer Leadership Scholarship. Remy committed to play volleyball at Mississippi College where she will pursue pre-dental studies.

Anna Claire Sheffield is the daughter of Richard and Kathy Sheffield. She has been on the varsity team for four years and a member of JA volleyball for seven years and also received the Raider Award this year. Anna Claire led the team in blocks her sophomore and junior year and is second all-time in school history with 252 blocks behind Conley Chinn. Anna Claire is committed to play volleyball at Mississippi College where she also plans to major in social work.

Congratulations to all three of these students, and thank you for how you represent Jackson Academy on and off the court!
