Students Embrace Service Above Self Through Interact Club

Jackson Academy’s Interact Club provides students with meaningful opportunities to serve others while building leadership skills and lasting friendships. The international youth service organization operates in partnership with the Rotary Club of Jackson, embodying the motto “Service Above Self.”

Throughout November, JA students volunteered at three community organizations. Members assisted at the Little Light House Fall Festival, supporting a school that serves children with special needs. Students also served with We Will Go, which offers after school literacy programs and provides essential food to those in need, and at Stewpot Children’s Aftercare, where they helped with homework assistance, tutoring, and enrichment activities.

The club’s commitment to service continues with several planned December activities, reflecting a broader culture of engagement at Jackson Academy. Ninety-three percent of sixth through twelfth grade students report that they participate in school-related activities outside the classroom, with service ranking as the fourth most popular activity among students.

Faculty sponsor Theresa Berman leads the club with support from faculty members Gloria Hirn, Susan Ingram, and other staff and parents who frequently serve alongside students. Students interested in joining can contact Theresa Berman in the Upper School or speak with any current Interact Club member. Interact officers are Co-presidents Sarah Kathryn Williams and Bess Borne and Vice-presidents Phoebe Graham and Liza Benner.
