Greg Stewart’s 38yd TD Reception

Jackson Academy defeated Northeast Lauderdale 16-12 last night in Meridian. In a rather sloppy contest, the Raiders were able to overcome three turnovers and a huge gap in the Time of Possession battle as the JA Defense rose to the occasion in the fourth quarter to stop the Trojans from reclaiming the lead in a back-and-forth second half.

Wyatt Powell carried the load for JA as he fininshed with 92 yards on 12 carries and his first varsity Touchdown.

Defensively, six Raiders got into double digits in tackles: Hunter Berry (16), Wes Crockett (15), Gavin Funderburg (14), K.C. Lucious (14), Luke Ross (14), and Kent McNamara (10). The Raider defense also collected three big sacks, included in their total of 12 1/2 tackles for loss in the game for a total of 44 yards lost. They limited the Trojans to 4-of-17 on third down conversions.

The Raider Special Team unit was just that, special. They collected 6 returns for a total of 143 yards, capped off by Davis Simmons‘ 76 yard Punt Return down to the 1-yard-line which set up Powell’s go-ahead score in the 4th quarter.

The Raiders will take on St. Georges Independent School out of Memphis on Friday, August 29th in their Home Opener at The Brickyard. Kickoff is at 7:00pm. The Countdown to Kickoff Pregame Show will start at 6:00pm on SuperSport 930.
