Congratulations to our Quiz Bowl team that won first place in the Mississippi College Academic Competition among 20 teams! Their score of 395 to 330 against East Rankin Academy in the finals round Thursday secured the championship.
That same day, the team beat Mississippi Pine Belt during the semi-final round in a sudden death tie-breaker round. Gautam Ray answered a chemistry question for the 20-point win. The final score in the semi-final round was 270 to 250.
Quiz Bowl Team advisor Theresa Berman said the JA students worked well as a team. “Our chemistry knowledge was sharp, as well as math, literature, and history,” she said. “The opposing teams were very strong today, and our students really shined!”
The team had advanced in competition earlier in January during the quarter-finals at Mississippi College with a score of 315 to Madison Central’s 210. Mississippi College awards scholarships to the four teams that reach the semi-finals.
Our team comprises junior Gautam Ray (Captain), senior Bailey Berry, senior Dev Sharma, senior Josh Watson, junior Blair Wilson, senior Jeffrey Gao, and junior Anna Payton Parker. We are so proud of their hard work and accomplishments!
JA’s Quiz Bowl team is competing at Murrah High School at the Mustang Invitational Tournament on Saturday, January 28.
