Showchoir season is upon us, and Jackson Academy’s Showtime and Encore are hard at work with the preparation and performance of their shows.
Showtime is in its third year under the direction of Reagan Ray and is made up of 34 seventh through ninth grade singer / dancers, 13 crew members, and 10 band members.
This season, Showtime will create a world of their own inspired by the children’s book “Bridge to Terabithia.” In their interpretation, outcasts turn to royalty, the impossible becomes possible, and the ordinary is turned extraordinary in this world that lives on, even though we grow and change.
Showtime competed this past weekend at the Northeast Jones Showchoir Invitational, where they earned second place in their division, second runner-up overall, and the Spirit of Showchoir award. They will continue their competition season at the West Jones Showchoir Invitational, the Petal Showchoir Invitational, and the Brandon Showchoir Elite.
Jackson Academy’s upper school showchoir, Encore is in its fourth season under the direction of Amy Whittenton. Encore is made up of 49 ninth through twelfth grade performers, with a band of 10 members and a crew of 13.
Encore’s show this season is a retelling of C.S. Lewis’s famous story, “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.” Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy travel through a mysterious wardrobe into a magical land to join Aslan and the Narnians in a heroic fight against the White Witch to bring summer back to Narnia. Featuring incredible costumes, sets, and choreography, Encore’s 2022 competition show has audiences captivated and thrilled from start to finish.
Last weekend, Encore also competed at the Northeast Jones Showchoir Invitational, where they earned second place in their division, first runner-up overall, and the Spirit of Showchoir award. Encore will also compete in the West Jones Showchoir Invitational, the Brandon Showchoir Elite, and the Heart of America in Nashville.
In addition to attending competitions, Jackson Academy hosts their own competition. The 10th annual Jackson Academy Showchoir Invitational was held on our campus the weekend of February 4-5. Over the two-day event, JA hosted 28 ensembles from 21 different schools across Mississippi and Alabama. With performers, bands, and crews on the stage, and packed audiences throughout the weekend, Jackson Academy was host to over 2000 guests on our campus. Raider Network was on hand providing both live-stream and digital purchase opportunities for all involved.
