The Jackson Academy Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of Eddie Wettach as the new Head of School, effective June 1, 2025. After a thorough search, the Board unanimously selected Wettach following strong recommendations from the search committee.
The search committee comprehensively evaluated more than 20 potential candidates, analyzing their diverse backgrounds, qualifications, and experiences. The committee and Board remained diligent in finding a leader who aligned with the Head of School Profile, a position guideline developed in 2024 in collaboration with constituents of the Jackson Academy community through survey feedback.
Wettach is not a stranger to Jackson Academy; he has been part of the JA family since enrolling as a student in 1990. He returned as an employee after graduation from Mississippi College, earning a reputation as a dedicated and respected community member who embodies the integrity, loyalty, and wisdom that define the JA culture. His extensive experience on campus includes roles as a classroom teacher, basketball coach, and technology director, notably guiding the school to become the first Apple Distinguished K3-12th grade school in the Southeast in 2013. Wettach has demonstrated exceptional servant leadership as Associate Head of School for Operations and Strategic Planning. He is poised to lead Jackson Academy into the future, especially as AI and new technologies increasingly transform education.
JA President Emeritus Peter Jernberg, a search committee member, served as the school leader during Wettach’s school years and when Wettach returned to JA to serve as an employee. “Eddie is a man of humility, a person whose values are based on deep faith, and somebody I am excited to see lead as our next Head of School,” Jernberg said.
Board of Trustees Chair McKie Edmonson and Vice-Chair Brad Williams wrote in a letter to the JA community: “We are confident that Mr. Wettach is the visionary and gifted leader who will advance Jackson Academy into its bright future. Our school is on a solid foundation, and our missional promise will not change.”
The Board views the leadership choice as one that will enhance stability and growth for the next generation of JA students and families. “We also continue to be grateful for the continuing leadership of Palmer Kennedy, who has built tremendous momentum for Jackson Academy throughout his tenure,” they wrote. Kennedy will retire May 31 after a lengthy career in education in Mississippi and Alabama. The Board will work with Kennedy, the administration, and the faculty to ensure a seamless leadership transition. The Board thanked the search committee for the group’s tireless efforts and the JA community for supporting the search process through prayers and survey participation.
Wettach and his wife, Brittany, are proud parents to Kathryn (First Grade) and Quinn (Third Grade), and the family anticipates the arrival of their third child this July.
