More than 300 grandparents who visited Jackson Academy on Friday discovered firsthand what makes their grandchildren’s Upper School experience special, with many calling the day “wonderful.”
The day began with educational presentations highlighting JA’s academic approach. Grandparents learned how art is present in multiple disciplines across the curriculum and attended an overview of science instruction from Preschool through Upper School. A panel discussion featuring fellow grandparents provided insights into the JA community, followed by a Q&A session that sparked meaningful conversations between generations. Several grandchildren heard stories they’d never encountered before, including where their grandparents were born and details about their early lives.
The morning’s academic focus gave way to artistic entertainment when cast members from Disney’s The Little Mermaid performed a preview of the musical opening this weekend. The performance showcased the remarkable arts program available to students.
School spirit filled the day as grandparents joined students at a pep rally before Friday’s football game, cheering alongside their grandchildren for the Raiders. The day concluded with grandparents sharing lunch with their ninth through twelfth grade students in the amphitheatre.
Visiting grandparents praised Jackson Academy’s well-rounded approach to education, noting how students are challenged academically while enjoying extensive opportunities in arts, athletics, and activities. They emphasized that JA provides a wonderful experience for entire families, not just students.
Grandparents Day allows older generations to witness the vibrant community their grandchildren navigate daily—from rigorous academics to creative performances to Friday night lights.
