K5

Up they go! K5 students’ inquisitive, enthusiastic minds explore new heights as teachers and parents partner to cultivate each unique personality and interest. With their expanding vocabularies and attention spans, the world of learning takes on a more clear and definite shape every day.

A Day in K5

Each K5 class begins their day by reading a Bible story, learning a Bible verse, and saying the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. The students sing patriotic and religious songs and spend time orienting themselves by discussing the calendar and weather before closing with a prayer.

Reading and Writing

Each K5 class is divided into small groups of 4 to 6 children. These groups rotate through reading, handwriting, and playtime stations every 20-25 minutes. Students are carefully taught to read and write letters, associate those letters with sounds, blend letter-sounds to form words and sentences, and to read and write phonetically regular words as well as memory words.

Tea Party

K5 students have a tea party that consists of a nutritious snack and drink. On birthdays, tea party time is celebrated with a special treat.

Story Time

Assistant teachers read and tell stories to the students. Poems, finger-puppet plays, and Bible verses are recited and memorized during story time. Children are given many opportunities to share their own stories and experiences with their classmates.

Enrichment Time

Throughout each week children participate in art, music, library, and develop perceptual motor skills during enrichment time. Science and social studies are taught throughout the curriculum, and K5 students enjoy National Geographic Young Explorer. Special reading units, such as “Beary” Special Reading and Dr. Seuss, encourage a love for reading.

Full-Day for K5

In addition to the morning half-day program, parents may choose a full-day program for their K5 students. K5 students in our full-day program enjoy the following enrichment programs in the afternoon:

Science Explorations

While conducting hands-on experiments, teachers encourage the students to see themselves as scientists exploring, investigating, and learning in their own unique ways.

Spanish

Spanish class helps students to understand different languages and cultures both in their country and throughout the world. Students learn vocabulary for everyday items, like hats and cats. Hispanic songs and games are integrated into the vocabulary lessons.

Technology

SMART Boards and iPads are interactive tools in the Full-Day classrooms that support various aspects of the program by reinforcing and enhancing reading and math skills.

Cooking Activities

Cooking activities engage students in learning by applying basic reading and math skills in an experiential way.
