Young Scientists Release Butterflies

April 14, 2026 / Preschool/All News

K3 students said a bittersweet goodbye this week to very special friends: Bunny, Polly, Nick, Nora, Frankie, Sheffield, and Mr. Pickles. JA’s K3 through Kindergarten students nurtured these friends as caterpillars, marveled as each spun into a chrysalis, and watched patiently for the big transformation. After watching, waiting, and wondering for several weeks, the young caretakers looked on with wide eyes as their teacher gently lifted the butterflies one by one from their habitat. Each butterfly made its exit in its own way — some lingering, as if reluctant to leave the hands that had tended them so faithfully, others lifting immediately toward the roses and impatiens nearby. Science had never felt so much like magic.
