Tips for the Road Ahead

An important part of the senior year at Jackson Academy is Life Skills Day, where seniors gain experience with tasks that may not be part of the classroom, but are part of adult life. Wednesday the seniors had a day filled with lessons about etiquette, table manners, and social skills, car maintenance, personal safety, and personal finance. The soon-to-be graduates also got practice with tasks such as sewing on a button, baiting a hook, and tying a bow tie and tie. The day concluded with Grilling 101 and some tasty food prepared by Alex Eaton of Aplos.

Speakers for the event included:

  • Evelyn Harris – Etiquette and Table Setting Mini Session
  • John Dinkins ‘84 – Changing a Tire and Jumpstarting a Car Battery
  • Ryan Geary ‘07 – Wealth Management, Investing and 401K
  • Sergeant Fredrick Suttles – Personal Safety and Your Surroundings
  • Jim Wilkirson – Writing a Thank You Note and How to Sew on a Button
  • Keith Kinkade – Pocket Squares and Tying a Bow Tie & Tie
  • Dean Arnold – Tying and Baiting a Fishing Hook
  • Alex Eaton – Grilling 101: The Charcoal Grill
