Third Graders Bring Stories of the Ingalls Family to Life

December 19, 2023 / Lower School/All News

Parents, faculty, staff, and students gathered in the PAC Friday for an unforgettable performance by talented third grade students. With heartwarming tales by Laura Ingalls Wilder, students took the audience on a journey through key moments of her life. From the chores and square dances to the joy of Christmas at the Ingalls home, this performance transported audiences back in time to the 19th century when families churned butter and stored food for the long winter.

Wilder wrote the first line of her eight autobiographical novels at her Missouri home in 1930. First published in 1932, her body of work lived on to make Wilder one of the most accomplished authors in American literary history. Wilder’s books have influenced readers both young and old, including generations of JA third graders. The annual Little House play has been such a long-standing tradition, former students and early play participants now find themselves watching their own children reenact Wilder’s beloved stories.
