News & Information

JA Dining Services

We are entering our second year with Valley as our dining services provider, and Valley and JA are looking forward to providing JA students and faculty with an enjoyable dining experience using high quality foods and an array of selections.

Attached below is a PDF with information from Valley. For your future reference, this information can be found through the JA website under the Student Life tab. (jacksonacademy.valleyinc.cafe)

JA would like to highlight three important items:

Setting Up Your MySchoolAccount
We ask that you create your student’s meal account prior to the start of school. See the “Dining Payment MySchoolAccount” portion of the PDF and the “Tips for Easy Dining” for assistance in setting up the account.

Finger Scans
Dining Services staff are at JA this summer from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to capture finger scans. Valley will utilize biometric scanning for grades 1st-12th. (See “Dining Payment Biometric Scanning” on the PDF for more information).

Negative Balance Cap
MySchoolAccount is a convenient secure way to make funds available to your child for use in dining services. In the 2019-20 school year, Valley will allow up to a $15 negative balance before a student can no longer make charges. Positive balances remaining at the end of the 2018-19 school year for students in K3-11th will roll over for use in the 2019-20 school year. Any negative balances remaining from the 2018-19 school year need to be cleared up prior to school starting in order to have cafeteria privileges at the start of school.

Please contact any of the Valley Services representatives listed on the PDF if you have additional questions.

Athletics

A Code of Good Sportsmanship
  • Promote the ideals of good sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity.
  • Cheer for the Raiders, not against the competition—this includes signs.
  • Respect officials and their decisions. Games can’t be played without them.
  • Win with humility, without boasting; lose with grace, without excuses or finger pointing; do both with dignity.
  • Demonstrate respect for opposing fans, coaches, and team members.
  • Realize that a ticket is a privilege to attend an athletic competition and support Jackson Academy activities, not a license to verbally assault others or be generally obnoxious.
  • Good sportsmanship should be contagious.
  • Self-control is a virtue.
  • Be an exemplary role model by positively supporting and encouraging Raider team members and their coaches. Have fun promoting our teams.
  • Be a fan…not a fanatic!
  • Make good sportsmanship a conscious priority. It’s simply the right thing to do.
  • Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

Athletic Booster Club

Letter from the JA Athletic Booster Club

Dear Parents,

Please consider joining the JA Athletic Booster Club this year. We would really love and appreciate your support. The JA Booster Club helps fund several projects for our students at Jackson Academy. Most recently, along with the JAA, we helped Jackson Academy pay for the new turf on the football field. Every student in the school benefits from our turf field. It is not just for sporting events, cheer, dance and band. It is used for physical education, Fall Carnival, recess, movie nights, etc. When the field was natural grass the use was strictly limited to the sporting events.

The JA Booster club has also helped raise funds to pay for the tennis courts, baseball lights, Raider Hall renovation, locker room renovations, football field improvements (new stands, lights, etc.), baseball dugout improvements, championship signage at raider park, track sound system, basketball score table, and the baseball outfield fence. We have also helped pay for uniforms, pole vault pit pads, basketball practice equipment, volleyball nets and equipment, safety equipment, the crash banner the football players run through at the start of games, and many more projects for the safety and well-being of our players and coaches.

The Booster Club’s goal is to donate $25,000 to the school each year for general maintenance of the athletic facilities. We rely on the support of our entire JA Family and hope you will join us. Please become a member of the JA 2019-20 Booster Club by clicking here.

Performing Arts

Newsies!
Newsies logo

Jackson Academy Performing Arts is pleased to present its fall musical, Newsies! With over 70 Jackson Academy Upper and Middle School students carrying the banner in its cast and crew, Newsies will wow audiences with its thrilling songs and stunning dance numbers. Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right!

Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.  Featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family!

Audiences will have three opportunities to seize the day with the talented cast of Newsies:

  • Saturday, October 26 at 7 p.m.
  • Sunday, October 27 at 2 p.m.
  • Monday, October 28 at 7 p.m.

For more information about Newsies, contact Kerri Sanders at ksanders@jacksonacademy.org or Amy Whittenton at awhittenton@jacksonacademy.org.
