Jackson Academy senior Sarah Yung has been named a Commended Student in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the recognition this month.
Sarah is among approximately 34,000 students nationwide recognized as Commended Students for their exceptional academic promise. Commended students placed among the top 50,000 students who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as juniors.
Sarah has challenged herself academically through numerous Advanced Placement and honors courses. She is a member of the Cum Laude Society, National Science Honor Society, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish Honor Society, and Academy Honor Roll. She has also received several academic awards, including the Glenn Cain Scholarship and academic awards in AP Chemistry, AP Pre-calculus, Honors Algebra II, Honors Chemistry, and Honors Biology.
In addition to her academic accomplishments, Sarah has held several leadership positions at Jackson Academy. She serves as co-president of the Cancer Kids First JA Chapter, junior co-chairman of the Pre-Health Club, secretary of the Professional Development Club, historian of the Beacon Wellness Club, and a member of the varsity volleyball leadership team.
Sarah is also a member of the varsity volleyball team and has earned honors including the AVCA Phenom recognition, Highest Academic Award, Raider Award, and Highest Hitting Percentage. She has participated in club and beach volleyball as well.
Sarah has also served her community through volunteer work with the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Education Matters Tutoring, Cancer Kids First, the Pre-Health Service Club, JA volleyball camps, and the Jackson Symphony League.
