Last Friday, the Jackson Academy Raider Dome was transformed into a whirlwind of energy, enthusiasm, and school spirit at the first football pep rally of the year. With the Raiders gearing up for their road game against Bayou Academy, the gymnasium was packed with students, teachers, fans, and coaches ready to stand unified with the team.
Lower School students, especially the K5 kids who were at their very first pep rally, were wide-eyed and excited. As they came in, the band played familiar fight songs, and the K5 students quickly caught on to the “Go Mighty Raiders!” chant. Their voices mixed with the band’s rhythms, creating an awesome atmosphere.
As the Middle and Upper school students poured into the gym, the cheerleaders and Accents led chants and cheers alongside the tunes of the band. The crowd’s enthusiasm grew as Jim Wilkirson took to the P.A. system, rallying each grade to compete in a cheer-off to see who could generate the most excitement. The Rowdies burst onto the scene, accompanied by the Raiderman, carrying flags spelling out RAIDERS. The group then dog piled, adding to the lively chaos.
Head Football Coach David Duggan spoke on how the team is focused on being great athletes and even better community members. He introduced the “Lock It Out” tradition, where the players and fans raised their arms to show unity and strength. He also talked about the team’s motto, “Change Your Best,” encouraging everyone to always push for better.
The spotlight then shifted to the team captains for the night’s game—Adonis Terry, Jacob Scarbrough, Parker Halford, and Shamarye Lee. They echoed Coach Duggan’s sentiments, thanking the fans for their support and urging them to get loud for the game. Their final shout to “Lock It Out” energized the crowd, setting the tone for the upcoming game.
The Raiders delivered an impressive 45-0 victory over Bayou Academy, a testament to the school’s spirit and team’s preparation.
