Grandparents hold a special place in their grandchildren’s hearts, and Jackson Academy cherishes the bonds that connect families across generations. Last week, JA hosted more than 700 grandparents for a memorable Lower School Grandparents Day celebration. A highlight of the year’s event is the quality time grandparents spend with their grandchildren.

Grandparents of second through fifth graders gathered in the Performing Arts Center, where Head of Lower School Marcy Rall warmly welcomed them. From there, the students and grandparents split into two groups. One group rotated through various classes, while the other enjoyed a lively set of family game shows in the PAC.
During the class rotations, grandparents got a glimpse into their grandchild’s school day, participating in activities in Art, Music, STEM, Spanish, Library, and P.E. classes. In the PAC auditorium, the other group participated in fun competitions hosted by Game Master Jim Wilkirson, including Name That Tune, Family Feud, Match Game, and The Grandparent Game, where students answered playful questions about their grandparents. Afterward, the groups swapped places to ensure everyone experienced both activities.

First graders had their special celebration, performing a heartfelt song for their grandparents and expressing love and appreciation. After the performance, grandparents joined their students in classroom rotations, further connecting with their grandchild’s school life.
“Grandparents Day is truly a highlight of the year for both students and faculty,” said Head of Lower School Marcy Rall. “We loved being able to welcome grandparents to school so they could see the wonderful things happening in the Lower School. The students took so much pride in showing their grandparents what they love most about school. We were so grateful to the hundreds of grandparents who braved the cold to spend the morning with their grandchild. It was such a wonderful day where a lot of memories were made for families.”
The event was a heartwarming extension of a cherished tradition, giving even more JA families a chance to celebrate the special connection between grandparents and grandchildren. It was a joyful day full of laughter, learning, and love.
