Leading up to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, young Raiders learned the importance of the holiday that celebrates his life and work. Classmates worked together to create an MLK masterpiece of colorful painted hands. Using teamwork, they witnessed the magic made when people set aside differences and work together. As they studied about Martin Luther King Jr., they colored a picture of him to display.
Students memorized a poem that was posted with their handprint poster and recited it: “Treat people kindly; do what is fair. Work for all people; show that you care. Change what is wrong, but, please don’t fight! Think of new ways to change wrong to right. These are the ways, as we work as a team, to remember the man who said, ‘I have a dream.'”
Next month, in observance of Black History Month, students may submit a drawing, painting, or other creation dedicated to a person, event, group, or any other part of African American history that inspires them. Students may submit between Friday, February 3 and Friday, February 10. Please bring all submissions to the Upper or Middle School Offices. JA will display these works in the PAC lobby beginning Tuesday, February 14 through the end of February.
