The spring semester at JA offers a number of opportunities to enjoy the arts. Band, theatre, and show choir students will participate in competitions, clinics, and public performances.

MAIS Concert Band Clinic

January 9-11 (weather permitting)
Hinds Community College, Raymond

Thirteen JA band members will represent JA in the Thursday and Friday clinic and at a concert Saturday at 11 a.m.

Mississippi Theatre Association Festival

January 16-19
MSU Riley Center, Meridian

At the annual Mississippi Theatre Association Festival, more than 900 participants engage in theatrical competitions, workshops, and more. Among participants will be JA students who advanced to the statewide festival after their December performance at the MTA’s DramaFest. The group returned from DramaFest with a number of awards for “no fury,” an original play written by JA’s Director of Performing Arts Kerri Sanders. Sanders’ play placed first in the Statewide MTA Adult Playwriting Competition and will receive a staged reading at the festival in January. A number of JA students also advanced to state finals in solo, duet, and group acting and musical categories.  These students will go on to compete at MTA in January.

Encore and Showtime 

The show choir competition season begins for Encore on January 18 at Northwest Rankin; Showtime begins its season on January 25 at Jackson Prep, when both Encore and Showtime compete. The Upper School (Encore) and Middle School (Showtime) groups perform at a number of competitions in the spring. 

JASI

On the weekend of January 31- February 1, JA will host the annual Jackson Academy Showchoir Invitational on campus. This is a reminder that there is an all school early dismissal at 11:45 on January 31. After School is open Friday, January 31 from 11:45-5:30 p.m. Students must bring their lunch. 

Debut 2025

On Tuesday, January 21, JA’s show choirs will present Debut 2025, a performance highlighting and presenting this year’s competition shows and solo performances. The program begins at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. JA students and JA faculty/staff get in free of charge by showing their JA ID. The event is open to all ages, parents, and guests.
