Malinda Battey, Executive Director for the MathCounts program was on campus Thursday to recognize Jack Voyles as a Top 10 State Finalist in a math competition held this spring. In the nationally recognized MATHCOUNTS® Competition Program, sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students participate in fun and challenging levels of mathematics competitions. Jack is completing the eighth grade at JA this year.
Faculty member and JA MathCounts sponsor Debra Hastings said that Jack is one of the most gifted math students she has taught during her career. “His understanding of concepts, application of those to his work, and accuracy in finding solutions is incredible,” she said.
“It was such a pleasure to watch him mentor younger students involved alongside him in the MathCounts program,” Hastings said. “Jack’s future in any area related to mathematics is so bright. I look forward to seeing where his interests lead him and the successes I know he will have in any area he chooses.”
