JA Students Learn about Lawmaking and Government

April 19, 2022 / Upper School/All News

Eight Jackson Academy students gained insight into the inner workings of government through positions as pages this school year. Caroline Bennett, Barton Boyll, Raygaen Hall, Caroline Johnston, Samuel Long, Sophie Rhoden, Ashton Tate, and Danielle Wallace each served as Mississippi House of Representatives, Mississippi Senate, or Governor of Mississippi pages. Pages generally run errands for officials and staff and learn about the legislative process. Students who serve as a page are sponsored by an elected official.

Caroline Johnston, a freshman, was sponsored for the week by Speaker of the House Philip Gunn. “I really enjoyed getting to be a page,” she said. ”I got to meet so many people and learn so much about the legislative process.”
