On Saturday, August 10, 38 JA seniors served at We Will Go Ministries Food Pantry during Senior Service Day. Head of Upper School Kyle Nichols and his two-year old son, and faculty members Theresa Berman, Gloria Hirn, and Susan Ingram and several senior parents joined in serving food to 100 neighbors in need in downtown Jackson.
“It was a wonderful experience! Our seniors worked together beautifully to prepare boxes of food and then met and prayed with the visitors receiving the food,” said Berman, who serves as faculty sponsor of the new service club called Interact.
Berman said that several students expressed the desire to return and serve again at We Will Go. “Many students said that they were powerfully impacted and blessed by their conversations and prayers with our neighbors,” said Berman. “We also had several students volunteer to help at We Will Go’s after school care program which is a ministry to the children of downtown Jackson, so we will begin to send students one day weekly to tutor and play with the children in the aftercare program.”
This service day was the first of many more to come. Students will have opportunities to serve at We Will Go and at other ministries in the community through Interact Club this year.
