Passing On the Tradition of the Easter Hat Parade

April 11, 2023 / Lower School/All News

First grade’s Easter Hat Parade is a tradition dating back more than 20 years. It’s always a fun, creative way for students to begin celebrating Easter, said Head of Lower School Sarah Love. This sweet tradition was virtual for the spring of 2020, but students and teachers kept the tradition alive. Everyone is grateful to celebrate it in person, allowing the students to show off their hard work to other Lower School students and get in the Easter spirit.

Students were stunned to see that K5 Teacher Sarah French ‘16 was wearing her Easter hat from when she was in the first grade at JA! “When I saw Easter Hat Parade on my calendar, I knew I had to find mine from 20 years ago,” said French. “I knew my mom would have kept it because she remembers when I walked in the parade students in my class were wearing their parents’ hats from years ago.” French’s mom kept the hat so maybe one day French’s children would have that same opportunity. The students were shocked French still had her hat from when she was in the first grade; students said it was “hilarious” and “super cool.”
