Eleventh grader Thomas Blanks shared wisdom with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes this week. “When someone asks, ‘Who are you?’, What do you think about?” he asked. “Do you identify with the sports you play? Your grades? Your accomplishments?”
Thomas said all people want to be accepted, but if they base their identity on fleeting things, circumstances can disrupt the basis of their identity. He then talked about basing one’s identity on things that are eternal.
Thomas referred to Genesis 1:27, which recounts part of the creation story that tells of God creating mankind in His own image. Thomas encouraged friends to not identify with things that can change, but to identify themselves with the constant–being made by God. You can’t expect to love others well if you don’t love yourself. Thanks, Thomas, for sharing such a great message with FCA.
