Famous Americans Day at Jackson Academy brings history to life in the most imaginative way possible. On Monday, February 23, students transformed into historical figures, donning carefully prepared costumes to honor the Americans who shaped our nation.
More than 200 grandparents, relatives, and special friends attended First Grade Grandparents Day on Friday, rotating through a full day of learning experiences alongside JA’s young Raiders.
There’s nothing like watching your child choose their very own book based on their own interests and reading level! Join us for the annual Scholastic Book Fair, February 9-13, in the Lower School Library. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade will explore hundreds of titles, and every book purchased supports reading programs that benefit all Lower School students.
Senior and kindergarten Alpha and Omega buddies gathered in the PAC lobby for a morning of reading Pete the Cat books together and enjoying snacks. The seniors settled in with their kindergarten buddies, reading the beloved children’s stories aloud while the younger students listened intently. Laughter and conversation filled the room as the pairs bonded over the colorful adventures of Pete the Cat. After finishing their reading time, kindergartners took their books home as keepsakes from their special friendship with their senior buddies. The morning combined literacy, mentorship, and meaningful connection as JA’s oldest and youngest students spent quality time together.
In preparation for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, students learned about the remarkable Civil Rights leader’s life and held activities to honor his legacy. JA teachers encouraged their students to contemplate the foundation that King laid and how they will contribute to a world of justice and equality for everyone.
Jackson Academy’s After School Chess Team recently claimed first place at the K-3 MAIS State Championship, defeating seven other teams in impressive fashion.
Jackson Academy hosted its annual Christmas with the Arts celebration, bringing together students from across the visual and performing arts programs for an evening of festive performances. The Performing Arts Center lobby showcased artwork from Lower School students, including elf creations from second and third graders. Ten of these student-designed elves were brought to life on stage by JA Theatre students in a special performance that connected younger artists with the Upper School performers.
Second graders arrived at school Monday morning and stepped into pure Christmas magic. Their hallway had been transformed into a scene straight from “The Polar Express,” with decorations adorning every surface from floor to ceiling.
The bonds formed through Jackson Academy’s Alpha and Omega buddy program don’t end at graduation. This month, first graders put pencil to paper to reach out to someone who made their kindergarten year special—the seniors they were paired with last year, now navigating their first year of college.
On November 11, 1919, Americans observed the first Armistice Day to honor those who served in World War I. Now known as Veterans Day, this special observance offers Americans the opportunity to express gratitude to all who have served our nation in uniform. Jackson Academy honored veterans through meaningful programs and activities that united students, faculty, and families in appreciation.
