A whirlwind of events made homecoming weekend one of the most exciting times on the JA campus. All week, students dressed in themes leading up to Friday’s Spirit Day and homecoming festivities.
At the morning pep rally, maids and escorts entered the gym to music representing various countries, in keeping with the “Around the World” theme. First grade court attendants walked alongside the maids and escorts. These first grade children of faculty and staff were cheered by their first grade classes.
Festivities continued that evening as everyone enjoyed house parties and an “Around the World” homecoming parade on Sheffield Drive. Maids and escorts rode in elaborately decorated “countries of the world” golf carts through the neighborhood, ending the parade at The Brickyard.
The championship football team of 2003 joined the Raiders on the field for the coin toss. Kick-off was at 6:30 as the Raiders met the Starkville Volunteers. At halftime, JA presented the homecoming court. Crowned as queen was Abby Fielder, who was escorted to the field by her father, Allen Fielder, then on the field by fellow senior Michael Greenlee.
The Raiders defeated Starkville Academy 29-7. After the game, tenth through twelfth grade students enjoyed a homecoming dance at The Old Capital Inn. To get a feel for the atmosphere and community of a JA Homecoming, click here or below to watch the highlight video!
