Each spring, Upper School AP Art students display selected pieces from their portfolios in the Performing Arts Center Gallery, offering the JA community a window into a year’s worth of creative work, growth, and artistic discipline. On display this year are selected pieces created by Preston Perkins, Crystal Gao, Justina Visgarra, and Ellie Morgan.

The portfolio is the heart of the AP Art experience. Throughout the year, students develop a sustained body of work that demonstrates their skills, creative vision, and artistic inquiry. Portfolios are submitted to the College Board for evaluation — and like other AP courses, strong scores can earn students college credit before students ever set foot on a college campus.
The process demands the kind of commitment and sustained effort that mirrors the rigor of any advanced academic course. Students are not simply completing assignments, they are developing an artistic voice, making intentional creative decisions, and producing work that is judged against a national standard.
The gallery display gives that work a moment to be seen, celebrating the dedication it took to create it.
