From stocks and mutual funds, to charitable gift annuities and will bequests, to endowments and unrestricted gifts, the Development Office can help you tailor your gift in numerous ways.

Once you have decided what type of gift you’d like to make, there are many means of making it. Of course, the quickest way to give JA a gift is to use our secure online giving form. It’s fast, secure, and easy to complete.

Giving Opportunities

  • Cash: Cash is the simplest and most common gift. For income tax purposes, a cash gift is deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
  • Stock: Gifts of long-term appreciated securities offer multiple tax savings for the donor.
  • Real Estate: A charitable gift of real estate can be particularly tax-advantageous.
  • Gifts-in-Kind: A donor may contribute personal property such as jewelry, art, boats, and motor vehicles. In general, you may receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of the item donated as determined by an appraisal.
  • Planned Giving: Donors may include Jackson Academy in their estate plans.
  • Matching Gifts: Many corporations will match the charitable gifts made by their employees.
  • Memorials & Honorariums: All gifts may be made in memory or honor of a loved one. We will gladly send an acknowledgment card to whomever you request.

MS Children’s Promise Act

Support the enhancement of educational opportunities at Jackson Academy while taking advantage of available tax credits.

In 2019, the Mississippi Legislature passed “The Children’s Promise Act,” which provides a dollar-for-dollar TAX CREDIT to businesses that give to a qualified Education Services Charitable Organization (ESCO). Jackson Academy is an approved ESCO, and through this Act, you can make a contribution to Jackson Academy and receive a business tax credit.

What’s the process?

Once you click on the online application link, there will be an “Apply for a Charitable Contribution Credit” link in the “Apply Online” section. Simply complete the online form by selecting “ESCO” as the “Type of Charitable Contribution Credit,” entering the requested company-specific information, and selecting “Jackson Academy” from the dropdown menu as the “(Primary) Name of the Organization to Receive the Contribution.” Complete the application by entering the contribution amount and expected date of contribution, review your information, and submit – it’s that simple!

When is the due date?

For 2025, the Mississippi Department of Revenue (DOR) has an online application, as the department no longer accepts paper applications. The DOR begins accepting applications at 8:00 a.m. on the first business day of the new year, January 5, 2026.

More details for businesses:
  1. Total Maximum Program Allocation: $9,000,000
  2. Limits on Total Allocation of Credit: Business Taxpayers (Corporations, Partnerships, Limited Liability Companies, and Sole Proprietorships)
  3. Tax-Types that Credit can be used against: Income Tax (50% of tax liability), Insurance Premium Tax (50% of tax liability), Insurance Premium Retaliatory Tax (50% of tax liability), Ad Valorem Tax (for entities not operating as a corporation, 50% of real property tax liability)
  4. Carry Forward: 5 years
  5. Other Limitations: Contributions cannot be used for other state charitable credits or as a deduction for state income tax purposes.
  6. Applications for the tax credit must be made on official Mississippi Department of Revenue forms.

Support Jackson Academy through tax credits for Mississippi businesses in three easy steps:

Step One

Complete the online business application on the Mississippi Department of Revenue website.

Step Two

Upon receiving a notice of allocation, make a donation to Jackson Academy.

Step Three

Send the receipt of your donation to the Mississippi Department of Revenue for verification.

Please consider listing Jackson Academy as either your first or second option for the company selection. Please note that there is a statewide cap of $9,000,000 for this program, and the maximum amount any ESCO can receive is $405,000. The program allocations are on a first-come, first-served basis, so all funding will likely be exhausted very early on the first business day of the year. Once the statewide cap is reached, no additional applications will be approved.

If you are considering a new gift under this program to Jackson Academy and you’d like to discuss this further, please contact Jim Wilkirson, Chief Advancement Officer, at jwilkirson@jacksonacademy.org and/or your tax professional.
