The universe will tell our sixth graders some of its secrets this month as they complete a project devised by teacher Katie Chustz. To complement their McGraw Hill Inspire Science Earth and Space curriculum, students will use the Sky Walk application to track moon phases for 29 days. Tomorrow they will begin this month-long study, just in time for Saturday night’s blue moon.
The Inspire Science curriculum provides students with verbal, digital, and hands-on learning opportunities to deepen their curiosity and elevate their ability to investigate and solve problems. By combining the curriculum’s Earth and Space unit with the Sky Walk app, students have everything they need to explore space.
Although students will focus on tracking the moon’s phases, Sky Walk allows them to delve deeper into space by accessing 3D models of constellations. And the application doesn’t just provide augmented reality – the application’s map of the sky updates in real-time with information like the International Space Station’s location. The students are learning a lot about astronomy and a lot about how big our universe is!
