Third grade students dressed as famous Americans

Famous Americans Day at Jackson Academy brings history to life in the most imaginative way possible. On Monday, February 23, students transformed into historical figures, donning carefully prepared costumes to honor the Americans who shaped our nation.

The celebration began with a spirited parade through the Lower School Playground, where young George Washingtons, Sacagaweas, Sojourner Truths, and Abraham Lincolns marched alongside astronauts, inventors, athletes, and artists. The parade then moved indoors to the gymnasium, where students took their places for a wax museum-style presentation—standing perfectly still as living statues until visitors approached to hear their stories.

Through this hands-on experience, students discovered the courage, ingenuity, and perseverance of the figures they portrayed. Learning about these contributions to American history through costume, parade, and performance brought the past to life in students’ imaginations and inspired them to dream about their own future contributions. Famous Americans Day reminded young learners that greatness comes in many forms—and that they, too, can reach for the stars.
