Students and faculty traveled to Mississippi State this past weekend to compete in the Mississippi Theatre Association’s DramaFest. The group returned with a number of awards for “no fury,” an original play written by JA’s Director of Performing Arts Kerri Sanders. Their performance of “no fury” earned the opportunity to advance to the MTA Statewide Festival.
Judges named Miller Usry to the All Star Cast, awarded Caroline Johnston the Outstanding Costume Design award, and recognized Henley Nance for Outstanding Performance for a Supporting Role. MTA awarded the Distinguished Play and the Outstanding Direction awards to “no fury.” JA students also won the title of Outstanding Ensemble for the Women of Argos. Sanders’ play also placed first in the Statewide MTA Adult Playwriting Competition and will receive a staged reading at the festival in January.
During a send-off performance on December 2, JA students got a preview of the writing, acting, and directing that won at DramaFest as the JA audience watched the reimagining of Euripides’ Orestes, set in Argos after the conclusion of the Trojan War.
