On Veterans Day, the entire Jackson Academy community, including students, faculty, and parents, found many ways to show appreciation for those who have served our country and are currently serving. Activities included performances, parades, and classroom activities, demonstrating JA’s collective respect for our veterans.
Lower School presented a Patriotic Program Monday morning in the Performing Arts Center. Classes gave readings, sang songs, and presented military branch songs and flags while veterans in attendance stood to be recognized. Between grade presentations, slides flashed across the screen, honoring and remembering members of the military who are family and friends of current students, faculty, and staff, reminding the audience of the personal sacrifices made for freedom. Students concluded the program with a song thanking the heroes.
Midmorning, a parade of preschoolers dressed in red, white, and blue walked the campus, waving bright crafts they had made to celebrate Veterans Day. Students from K4 to our littlest two-year-old Raiders took part in the parade, waving to staff members in offices, fist bumping with people they knew, and hugging their parents who work for JA when they spotted them.
Senior and kindergarten Alpha and Omega buddies worked on an activity to honor veterans this morning during break. The Upper School Counseling Office asked Upper and Middle School faculty and staff to email the names of family members who have served. Alpha and Omega buddies made a craft to honor these heroes.
