Band Earns Class A Honors in St. Louis

Band

Congratulations to the JA Band for receiving second place honors in Class A in the Bands of America Regional Competition in St. Louis! This event showcased some of the finest band programs in the country, with 64 groups competing at the Edward Jones Dome.

The MAIS State Marching Band Festival is this Saturday, October 24, at JA’s Raider Field. The JA Band performs at 4:15 p.m.

More volunteers are needed to make the event run smoothly and to provide a positive experience to the visiting groups and fans. JA Performing Arts Department Presents Our Town

Thornton Wilder’s Our Town follows the small town of Grover’s Corners through three acts: “Daily Life”, Love and Marriage”, and “Death and Eternity”. Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, audiences follow the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually—in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre—die.

Our Town, presented by the Jackson Academy Performing Arts Department, begins in April. Four different performances of the production are scheduled for April 16, 17, and 18, at 7:00 p.m. and on April 19, at 2:00 p.m.

2015-16 Jernberg Scholars Announced

Jackson Academy has selected five students for the inaugural class of Jernberg Scholars. The JA Board of Trustees established the Jernberg Scholarship, which celebrates and awards academic excellence, in honor of President Emeritus Peter Jernberg who retired this past summer. The scholarships will become effective in the 2015-16 school year.

Students were chosen from among a large group of highly qualified applicants who completed testing, essays, recommendations, and school and financial applications. Finalists completed on-campus interviews.

Chosen for 2015-16 are Gracie Coe of Brandon, (sixth grade), Carter Elliott of Brandon (seventh grade), Columbia Holeman of Morton (Sand Hill) (eighth grade), Allie Perkins of Brandon (ninth grade), and Sahil Patel of Jackson (tenth grade). Gracie, Carter, Columbia, and Sahil are current JA students, and Allie will be coming to JA for 2015-16.
