Senior William Crasto West Nile Virus StorySenior William Crasto with Librarian Suzie Adcock and students in the Lower School Library

Senior William Crasto recently donated a copy of the newly released book Nature’s Deadliest: The Mosquito to the JA Lower School Library. The Mosquito is one of a series of eighteen children’s books produced by Bellwether Media out of Minneapolis, Minn. This series was created to inform children of dangerous animals and includes books on the black widow spider, the great white shark, killer bees, and saltwater crocodiles. In 2007, William contracted the West Nile virus from a mosquito bite and spent several years recovering from this life-threatening illness. After being interviewed by the author, William’s story, along with photos, was featured in the book.

JA Band at BOA Indy Super Regional

JA Band at BOA Indy Super RegionalJA Band at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis

Congratulations to the JA Band for third place honors in Class A at the Bands of America Indy Super Regional this past weekend. They competed with many of the best bands in the country at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The JA Band was the smallest group on the field by far and garnered responses on the BOA live blog and social media such as “I guess eight wind players is all you need. Jackson Academy sounded amazing,” “Jackson Academy, Miss. plays Radiohead with 5…saxes, 2 trumpets, a trombone, and 6 in the pit. Unreal. And awesome,” and “These kids are multi-dimensional. They can do it all.”

Thanksgiving Food Drive

Jackson Academy is doing something new this year for our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive!

There are many children in our area who eat two meals provided by their school every day because they don’t receive enough food at home. On days that they don’t have school, these children may struggle to find enough food to eat. Jackson Academy is partnering with Kroger and local charitable organizations to provide nutritious, nonperishable meals and snacks for them to enjoy over the Thanksgiving holiday!

Grocery bags will be distributed to Preschool and Lower School students on Monday, November 11th, and to Middle and Upper School Students on Tuesday, November 12th. Fill the bag with non-perishable, kid-friendly meals and snacks (suggested items are included with the bag) and return your bag and/or cash donation by Friday, November 15.

Community Service Club members will be at the Preschool, Lower School, and Middle School carpool lines to collect bags and/or donations. They can also be delivered to the Grade Level Offices or first period classrooms.

Service Club Members will sort the food donations, consolidate bags, purchase food with donated money, and fill any remaining bags. They will then distribute the bags to the organizations.

Our goal is for everyone at JA to participate in some way, whether you choose to fill the bag completely, bring a few items, or make a cash donation!
