Peter Jernberg, Jr. Scholarship

A scholarship honoring Peter Jernberg was announced at an April Board of Trustees event celebrating his 26 years of leadership at Jackson Academy. On June 1, Jernberg begins his service as president emeritus.

The James Peter Jernberg, Jr. Scholarship is aimed at attracting, retaining, and recognizing students with outstanding academic performance who also have demonstrated financial need. This scholarship will cover full tuition, fees, and other costs to attend Jackson Academy.

Celebrations Remind Us We ‘Drink from Wells We Did Not Dig’

Several hundred colleagues and friends attended retirement celebrations honoring Peter Jernberg held April 9 and 10 in the Gallery of the Performing Arts Center. The April 9 event was a gathering for faculty and staff. Students presented a special choral presentation of “Unforgettable” and “It Is Well with My Soul,” favorite selections of Mr. Jernberg. The April 10 event for members of the community was attended by many friends from the Metro Jackson area as well the Delta, where Mr. Jernberg had served for 21 years at Indianola Academy. The JA Jazz Band presented music in the plaza outside the PAC.

Confessions of a German exchange student: “I can’t imagine my life without sweet tea.”

Isabel Althoff’s friends were scattering to multiple countries on different continents-to New Zealand, Australia, France, and the United States. And the fifteen-year-old resident of Mainz, Germany had her heart set on traveling, too. She wanted to study in Canada.

After all, her mother had been an exchange student, and in her home country, popular international exchange programs for high school students abounded.

4th Annual 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament

A 3 on 3 basketball tournament will be played on Friday, April 18th (Good Friday) at Jackson Academy. Playing games of 3 on 3 is a great way for kids to learn how to move without the ball while improving individual basketball skills. Games will start at 9:00 a.m. Boys and girls in grades 4 – 9 can participate (JA Students Only).

Grades 4 – 6 will be randomly chosen to determine team members. Grades 7 – 9 are encouraged to form their own teams. Champion T-shirts will be awarded for each division. For questions contact Ronnie Rogers at 601.540.8041 or e-mail him at rrogers@jacksonacademy.org
