Alpha and Omega Buddy Reading

Alpha and Omega Buddies read “Pete the Cat” together in the PAC Lobby this morning. The seniors each wrote a sweet note inside the cover of the book for their buddies. After reading together, kindergartners took their books home as a keepsake.

Senior Kate Frost shared that it has been one of her favorite parts of her senior year. “It is so special to have someone who looks up to you,” said Kate. “I can’t wait to watch her grow up and be in my position one day to have the same experience!”

Nurse and Counselor Kathy Sheffield has seen the benefits of “Buddy Reading” for students. Buddy Reading builds confidence and leadership skills while building mentoring relationships.

When first Headmaster Loyal Bearss helped found Jackson Academy in 1959, the college teacher brought his phonics and language development research to students. Beginning Jackson Academy’s 65th Anniversary, it’s important to not only see how far we’ve come as a school but also see where we’re going.

Alpha and Omega Buddy Reading is another example of how JA combines top-level academics and all-around character development to inspire students to reach their greatest potential.
