At Jackson Academy, you are surrounded by a community of supporters—all dedicated to helping you identify your greatest talents, develop your particular gifts, and live with a strong sense of faith and purpose.
Apple Distinguished School
At Jackson Academy, we give an Apple to every teacher. And every student, too. The Apple one-to-one program means every JA student (K3-12th grade) is given a grade level appropriate Apple device. Not only has JA received the Apple Distinguished School award, we are proud to announce that 100 percent of our teaching faculty is now Apple Teacher Certified. ALL FOR ONE. That’s the JA Way.
Natalie Ford: Inspired to Pursue Excellence
Natalie Ford discovered her love for speech and debate while at Jackson Academy. When challenged to prepare speeches on the speech and debate team, Natalie’s already creative thinking and writing found a new outlet. Natalie is thankful for a school community that inspired her to pursue excellence. Her enhanced skills of communication will serve her well as a freshman at Marist College in New York. ALL FOR ONE. That’s the JA Way.
Young Author Sydney Thaxton: Finding HER voice.
Sydney Thaxton dabbled in writing short stories before coming to JA. But it was JA teacher Grace Simmons’ fifth-grade English class that inspired Sydney to complete her first book, Dusk. Simmons focuses a lot on writing, encouraging students to find their voice and use writing as a means of developing critical thinking skills. Excited about Sydney’s success, the school held a book signing to celebrate. ALL FOR ONE. That’s the JA Way.
Golf Prodigy Wilson Furr: He has a fan club of thousands.
When Wilson Furr was playing golf in the Junior Ryder Cup, he developed an unexpected fan club in the young golf enthusiasts from a PGA Junior League. Back home, Wilson already had a fan club in the coaches, teachers, family and peers who challenged him to always be his best. His coaches say he exemplifies the qualities of good sportsmanship and camaraderie. Knowing the community was behind him has always been an inspiration. ALL FOR ONE. That’s the JA way.
STAR Student & Teacher: If you’re ALL FOR ONE, you give your all.
STAR Student Award JA senior Nancy Usey was selected STAR Student in the Mississippi Economic Council Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition Program. She chose history teacher, Dr. Dennis Conklin, as her STAR teacher. Nancy gives his class credit for inspiring her to take on new challenges, up her game, and think for herself. Dr. Conklin believes embracing a challenge makes us stronger when we reach the other side. ALL FOR ONE. That’s the JA way.
