Four Jackson Academy athletes to sign with Division I universities November 9

Four Jackson Academy student athletes will indicate their intent to play at NCAA Division I universities on National Signing Day, Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016. Signings will take place at 10:00 a.m. in the Learning Commons (formerly called the Upper School Library, on the Sheffield Drive side of campus, in the Administration Building.

Conner Beth Ball — University of Mississippi, golf
Conley Chinn — Belmont University, basketball
Wilson Furr — University of Alabama, golf
Meredith Roberts — Texas Christian University, tennis

Conner Beth Ball

  • Has played golf competitively since age 6
  • Member of Jackson Academy boy’s Golf Team since 2009
  • Ranked 40th in the Polo Junior Golf worldwide rankings for her graduating class
  • Two-time Mississippi Junior Amateur Champion, one of the state’s youngest players to ever capture the title with her first win at 13 years old.
  • MAIS AAA Individual Girls State Champion, leading the Jackson Academy Girls Golf Team to the state runner-up title in 2015 and a member of the 2015 MAIS AAA Boys State Championship team.
  • Advanced through match play to the Top 4 in the Mississippi Women’s State Amateur in 2014 and 2016.
  • On the national level, Conner Beth finished T-17th in stroke play at the USGA Junior Girls Championship and advanced to match play this summer in Paramus, New Jersey.
  • Member of the Southeast Junior Golf Tour (SJGT) and the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) with numerous top 5 finishes
  • Won three SJGT tournaments and was the runner-up in AJGA Junior at Owensboro.
  • Shot a career best 6- under par in two-day competition to capture the medalist honor at the SJGT TimberCreek Junior Classic.
  • Finished T-3rd place in the North & South Girls Junior Amateur at Pinehurst, NC in 2015.
  • Played in the Big I National Championship in 2012, 2015.

  • MAIS Player of the Year
  • Most versatile player in the 2016 season
  • Player for the Alabama Starz AAU team for two years
  • 2015-16 Gatorade Mississippi Volleyball Player of the Year, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field
  • Member of MAIS State Championship Volleyball Team three years in a row: 2014, 2015, 2016
  • A member of the Volleyball All-State Tournament Team each of the past three seasons, she is also a Clarion-Ledger First Team All-State selection

Wilson Furr

  • Named to the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Rolex All-American Team for 3rd consecutive year
  • Three-time All American
  • Had Top 10 finishes at The Thunderbird, The Haas Family Invitational, and the Rolex Tournament of Champions.
  • Competed as a member of the East Squad in the AJGA Wyndham Cup
  • One of only six American boys on the Junior Ryder Cup team in 2016
  • Played in the United States Golf Association USGA Amateur Championship
